Watch DM Perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Depeche Mode were musical guests on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night. They performed 5 songs live for a small audience on the Sony Outdoor Stage behind the studio. Only two of the songs (the two Delta Machine singles “Heaven” and “Soothe My Soul”) were filmed for broadcast.
The band led with “Soothe My Soul” which was the track broadcast:
Then they played “Heaven”:
Three other songs (“Personal Jesus”, “Enjoy The Silence” and “Should Be Higher”) were all that there was time to play as the studio had been requested to close the show down by 7:30pm to accommodate celebrities arriving for the Iron Man 3 movie premiere that was taking place next door.
The limit of only two songs officially filmed was studio imposed on the media present. The irony (disgraceful irony, in my opinion) was the ridiculous number of mobile phone “cameramen” filming the entire performance from the audience.
I can’t understand the practice myself. If I were fortunate enough to be in the audience at a special limited audience event like this, the last thing I’d want to do would be to watch the show through my 4-inch mobile screen. The jerks are obvious in the videos above, and it’s no wonder that the crowd seems so flat, detached and uninvolved in the performance – they’re all too busy messing with their mobiles.
So, if you really want to see the band performing the other three songs a quick search on YouTube should turn up a bunch of shaky, poor sound, single angle clips for your viewing pleasure. Personally, I won’t give any of these fools the benefit of my views for their stats.
